Garden Design & Consultations in Southern New Hampshire
A Thoughtful Garden Designed for You
Scout Hill Farm offers personalized garden design and consultations for homeowners throughout Southern New Hampshire and nearby Massachusetts communities.
Whether you’re imagining a colorful flower garden, a productive vegetable patch, or a peaceful outdoor retreat, I can help you create a plan that reflects your style, property, and priorities.
Together, we’ll create a garden that supports pollinators, provides four seasons of interest, and is manageable to maintain.
Start With Your Garden Goals
Every garden is different. During your consultation, we’ll discuss:
- Your vision and personal style
- How you want to use the space
- Your favorite plants, colors, and seasonal interests
- Pollinator and wildlife goals
- Your preferred level of maintenance
- Challenges you’re experiencing in the garden
I’ll also evaluate practical factors such as sunlight, soil, moisture, drainage, irrigation, and existing plants. Understanding these conditions helps me recommend plants that will thrive in your garden over the long term.
Why Work With Holly?
I bring extensive plant knowledge and firsthand experience gardening in New Hampshire’s climate. I understand the challenges of New England gardens - from changing seasons and difficult site conditions to selecting plants that will provide lasting beauty.
My designs emphasize:
- Plants suited to your garden’s sunlight, soil, and moisture
- Flowers and habitat that support pollinators
- Four seasons of color, texture, and structure
- Thoughtful plant spacing that helps reduce weeds
- Rhythm and repetition that bring harmony to the landscape
- A level of maintenance that fits your lifestyle
Rather than simply filling a space with plants, I create cohesive gardens designed to become more beautiful with time.
Garden Design Services
Garden Consultation — $95 per hour
Meet with me over Zoom or in your garden for personalized advice.
A consultation may include site analysis, plant recommendations, layout ideas, garden troubleshooting, or guidance for a garden you plan to create yourself. We’ll discuss your goals, assess the conditions of the space, and identify practical next steps.
Often this works for someone with an existing garden who is looking for advice on tweaks or filling gaps.
Full Garden Design
A full garden design begins with a 90 min, $75 on-site consultation. There is no obligation to continue after the initial visit.
Following the consultation, I’ll send you a proposal outlining the recommended scope, estimated hours, and cost for your approval.
Your completed design includes:
- A garden plan drawn to scale on graph paper
- A Google Sheet containing your recommended plant list
- A Pinterest board featuring the selected plants
Wholesale Plant Procurement — $95 per hour
I can source and order plants from local wholesale growers, helping you find healthy plants that fit your design and growing conditions. This allows you to get full trays of plants and a great selection without paying retail prices.
My core services are garden consultation, design, plant selection, and plant procurement. Contact me to discuss the kind of support you may need after your design is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions
What areas do you serve?
I provide on-site garden consultations and design services throughout Southern New Hampshire and nearby Massachusetts communities. Virtual consultations are also available over Zoom. Contact me if you’re unsure whether your property is within my service area.
What happens during a garden consultation?
We’ll walk through your garden and discuss your goals, preferences, challenges, and desired level of maintenance. I’ll assess factors such as sunlight, soil, moisture, existing plants, and how you want to use the space. You’ll leave with professional guidance and practical next steps.
Can you redesign an existing garden?
Yes. I can help you improve an established garden, rethink an underperforming area, or create a plan for an entirely new space. Whenever possible, I’ll consider which existing plants can be retained, moved, or incorporated into the new design.
Do you design pollinator-friendly gardens?
Yes. Supporting pollinators is an important part of my design approach. I can recommend plants that provide nectar, pollen, shelter, and seasonal interest while creating a garden that feels intentional and cohesive.
Can you design a low-maintenance garden?
Every garden requires some care, but thoughtful plant selection, appropriate spacing, and good site preparation can reduce ongoing work. We’ll discuss what “low maintenance” means to you and design around the amount of time you realistically want to spend gardening.
What is included in a full garden design?
A completed design includes a garden plan drawn to scale on graph paper, a Google Sheet containing your plant list, and a Pinterest board featuring the selected plants. After the initial site visit, I’ll provide a proposal outlining the scope, estimated hours, and cost for your approval.
When should I begin the design process?
Garden planning can happen throughout much of the year, but beginning early gives us more time to develop the design and source plants before your preferred planting season. Contact me to discuss your project and timing.
